Caolo & Bieniek Architects led the transformation of the historic Old Chicopee High School into the modern Sgt. Kevin A. Dupont Memorial Middle School. This comprehensive renovation preserved the building’s architectural character while introducing updated spaces that support contemporary learning. Key features include a new cafeteria, television production studio, art and band rooms, science labs with “dirty labs” for safety, and a fully renovated gymnasium.

Classrooms were reconfigured to support differentiated instruction, with a focus on flexible layouts and optimal room sizes. A bright, open library provides space for small group collaboration and computer use. Major upgrades to the building’s structure and systems—including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection—ensure the school will serve students for generations to come while honoring its historic legacy.
