Completed in 2006, the renovation and expansion of the Lilly Library in Northampton, Massachusetts, revitalized a cherished community resource while preserving its historical character. The project included the careful restoration of the original 4,180-square-foot structure, built in 1890, and the addition of a 5,324-square-foot extension designed to complement the building’s architectural heritage.
The renovation brought the facility into full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act by incorporating an elevator, accessible restrooms, and a new ground-level entrance. Additional parking and site upgrades enhanced the overall accessibility of the library.
The expanded layout allowed for a larger Children’s Room, a dedicated meeting room for public use, and increased space for materials and modern technologies. Utility improvements and thoughtful landscaping completed the transformation, supporting the library’s continued role as a welcoming and inclusive hub for the Northampton community.
