The renovation and expansion of the Indian Orchard Branch Library preserved the charm of a historic Carnegie library while bringing the building up to modern standards. Originally built in the early 1900s, the existing 5,700-square-foot structure underwent a careful restoration that included a new slate roof, historically appropriate window replacements, and extensive masonry repairs across much of the exterior.

Inside, original architectural details such as mosaic tile floors, wood trim, and a stained-glass dome skylight were restored to celebrate the building’s heritage. Upgrades also focused on improving accessibility through the addition of a side entrance lift and fully accessible restrooms.

A new 4,300-square-foot addition provided much-needed space for community use, including a flexible meeting room that supports public programs and events. The project successfully balanced the preservation of historic character with the functionality expected of a modern public library, creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all visitors.
