Training can now be made available to current air traffic controllers, pilots, students, and military personnel exposing them to newly developed technologies that are directly applicable to field operations. Instructors are able to perform testing and demonstration, as well as create a variety of scenarios that traffic controllers can face to improve the quality of aviation operations.
A number of officials were present to celebrate the opening of the Center including Governor Charlie Baker, U.S. Representative Richard E. Neal, State Senators Eric Lesser and John Velis, and UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble R. Subbaswamy, and director of the UMass Transportation Center Michael A. Knodler Jr., to name a few.
“As the industry continues to evolve, this center will provide the next generation of aviation professionals with the best we can offer in training and research, and will serve as the model for how we can embrace new technology in order to accelerate the creation of new opportunities for both employment and innovation,” Baker said.
This center is truly ground breaking and opens the door to many avenues that have not yet been possible to explore, until now.
“We are going to be able to answer aviation human factors research questions the likes of which nobody else has the ability to answer,” Knodler said.
